Previous versions of RHEL were feature-driven. RHEL 8 is time-driven.
What RedHat calls release cadence means consistent timeframes and published roadmap:
- 3 years for major release cycle,
- 6 months for minor release cycle.
If a feature is not ready at the time of the release date, it will be part of the next release and the release date will not be postponed.
According to a RedHat director, this is a big change for the company that triggered a complete reorganization.
