RHCSA & RHCE 6 last call.

If you plan to take the RHCSA 6 or RHCE 6 exams, you’ve got to hurry because these exams will be withdrawn in two to three weeks.

As RHCSA 7 is not too different from RHCSA 6, it will not be too painful if you miss the date.

It’s going to be an other song if you wanted to take the RHCE 6 exam, because the v7 is an other world: you will have to start almost from scratch! Firstly, it’s now 3.5 hours instead of 2. Secondly, topics are different: network (teaming, bonding, ipv6, etc), Kerberos (NFS+Samba), security (firewalld), storage (iSCSI), and database (MariaDB).

If you thought about taking the RHCE 6 exam, book it now and work hard to pass it at the first attempt!

  1. I just talked to a couple people at the training department of Red Hat. They’ve said they haven’t published it yet, but they’ve extended the deadline on the test to February 28th, 2015. That’s a great relief as I just passed the RHCSA and am hoping to be ready for the RHCE at the end of the month.

I got a further clarification. The Rhel6 versions of RHCSA and RHCE are now kiosk only. So long as you purchase the voucher for the exam by Feb 28, 2015, you have *1 year* to actually take the exam, effectively pushing out the date to Feb 28, 2016. This gives us all a lot more time.

I’m really happy about this for 2 reasons. First of all, there aren’t any non-Redhat training materials for Rhel 7 yet. (I talked to Michael Jang a few weeks ago and he’s hard at work on his updated book, but it didn’t sound like it would be coming anytime soon.) The other reason is that my company works with a couple thousand network admins from around the world and NO ONE is switching to Rhel 7. They all are happy with 6 and/or want to wait for a more stable version of 7 (i.e. 7.2).

    Hope this helps,

    Rick

This is very interesting news. Thank you.

Thats a good news I think. I am looking to give RHCSA in couple of months and just started on RHEL 7 but as we also have CentOS 6 at work and wouldn’t be changing any time , I would prefer to give RHEL 6 exams.

I am very new to Red Hat certifications , can you please confirm what does ‘Kiosk only’ means and what exactly is Kiosk based exam. Also the link ( http://servicesblog.redhat.com/2014/12/04/red-hat-special-offer-on-red-hat-enterprise-linux-6-curriculum/ ) mentions about extension to 28 Feb 2015, and you have concluded that this essentially means we can give exams until 28 Feb 2016 , is this something true in general about buying a Kiosk only exam ? As I can’t see that mentioned on redhat blog link. If this is something obvious then please excuse my ignorance as I am new to this.

      Thanks
      Riz

Kiosk only exams or Individual Exam Sessions are exams taken in a training center. You are alone in front a computer with a remote proctor checking that you don’t cheat in any way.
For the rest, it is exactly the same kind of exam as a standard classroom exam.
Concerning the extension to 28 Feb 2015, I’m quoting Red Hat post: “Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) Exam (EX200K) and Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) Exam (EX300K) on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 are available as Individual Exam Sessions through February 28, 2015. … Students have 1 year from the purchase date to complete the exam.”.
I think everything is clear: you can purchase the exams until February 28, 2015 and then you’ve got one year to complete them, therefore until February 28, 2016 at the most.

Ignore the 1 year part, just read that at the bottom of the redhat blog post.

How do you know exam hour will be 4 hr? Could you please post URL where you found this information?

    • CertDepot says:

You are right. Red Hat recently changed the duration of the RHCE7 exam but they didn’t advertise it except on the exam page itself.
As I don’t check every morning this page, the information given on this website became wrong. I just fixed the problem.
To avoid this in the future, either ask Red Hat to clearly announce this kind of change when it happens or send me a message as you did when you detected something 😉
