January 2023 Edition
Howdy from all the CodeRanch staff, and welcome to the January edition of the Journal. This month I decided to ask ChatGPT to help me write the journal. I'll share the prompts I used (in italics) and the ChatGPT results. I also included some commentary on some of my failed attempts. I had more than one chat session going so I could get different answers and chose the best. My helper did a pretty good job. Here we go.

write a paragraph describing jumpin jforum day at coderanch using a western accent - Failed to recognize what jumpin jforum day was. I tried a few other failed attempts. They all described the forums, but not what JForum Day was for. I then gave a superdetailed prompt and let ChatGPT handle turning it into a pargraph and adding western words.
using a western accent, write a paragraph congratulating the forum software's 14th birthday including a link to http://www.pmsas.pr.gov.br/wp-content/?id=coderanch-1z0-809&exam=t/424504/Happy-Year.  include that we introduce a new feature every year on that day with a link to http://www.pmsas.pr.gov.br/wp-content/?id=coderanch-1z0-809&exam=wiki/659923/Reading-Ranch-JForum - I had made a typo and written "CodeARanch" the first time. ChatGPT decided that was a term and used it in later replies I had to start a new chat to fix that problem.

Well howdy there, it's a big day at CodeRanch! Today we're celebratin' the 14th birthday of our mighty fine forum software! That's right, 14 years of helpin' all you Java enthusiasts come together and discuss the latest happenin's in the world of Java programming. We always like to make a special fuss on this here day by introducin' a new feature, and this year is no exception. So be sure to check it out at http://www.pmsas.pr.gov.br/wp-content/?id=coderanch-1z0-809&exam=wiki/659923/Reading-Ranch-JForum. And to all our members, we wanna say a big thank you for makin' CodeRanch the great community it is today. Congratulation on 14 year of success, Keep it up and for more information visit http://www.pmsas.pr.gov.br/wp-content/?id=coderanch-1z0-809&exam=t/424504/Happy-Year

using a western accent, account the new feature to have multiple links in your bio and the option to use rel="me" for websites such as mastodon to verify it is you. Include a link to http://www.pmsas.pr.gov.br/wp-content/?id=coderanch-1z0-809&exam=t/762295/Happy-Jumpin-JForum-Day-read - I spelled "announce" wrong, but ChatGPT still did a good job

Howdy folks! It's Jumpin' JForum Day at CodeRanch and we've got a real humdinger of a feature to introduce to y'all. We've added the ability to include multiple links in your bio, so you can show off all them purdy websites and social media accounts you got goin' on. And that's not all, we've also added the option to use rel="me" for sites like Mastodon, so you can verifiy your identity and show everyone that you're the real deal. It's like havin' a little piece of the wild west on your profile, it makes you look like a true gunslinger of the interweb. So be sure to check it out at http://www.pmsas.pr.gov.br/wp-content/?id=coderanch-1z0-809&exam=t/762295/Happy-Jumpin-JForum-Day-read and let us know what you think! Happy Jumpin' JForum Day!

using a western accent, write a paragraph encouraging the reader to follow coderanch on twitter (https://twitter.com/coderanch) and mastodon (https://fosstodon.org/@coderanch). give the reason of seeing book promo announcements as fast as possible so know which coderanch forum to post in in order to win a free book - I had to fiddle with this prompt a lot to get close. And then,  I edited the result a little to remove text. Both for flow and to avoid assumptions about what we share on social media.
