2) and in maven dependencies, I can see ojdbc14.jar, but no content is shown in it in eclipse maven dependencies as in the diagram. (although the jar really has oracle.jdbc.driver.OracleDriver.class).

Maven really doesn't like it when you attempt to reference resources that are located in places specific to your local machine's filesystem and outside of the project directory. It breaks the "write-once/build-anywhere" paradigm that is central to Maven.

What I'd recommend is that you install your ojdbc4.jar into your local maven repository and reference it as an ordinary dependency. That's what I do.

The secret of how to be miserable is to constantly expect things are going to happen the way that they are "supposed" to happen.

You can have faith, which carries the understanding that you may be disappointed. Then there's being a willfully-blind idiot, which virtually guarantees it.
