A significant source of Winter heating here is radiant from the Sun. From there it either goes in through windows (
greenhouse) or through walls/attic/ceiling. Thermal inertia can keep that heat coming in long after the sun sets (in Summer, too, alas!).
When that fails, the A/C takes over. It can provide warmth as a heat pump, augmented by an emergency radiative electrothermal
unit. Heat from the A/C is distributed via forced-air flow, so not technically convective.
As for fuel sources, coal is essentially extinct in the state to the point where I'm not sure even electrical generators use it anymore. Fuel oil (kerosene) is likewise fading fast. Only the very oldest parts of the cities have in-ground gas lines, though I used to lease a stand-alone tank before converting to electric.
So about all that remains for the most part is electric and wood fireplaces and most fireplaces are decorative at best.
The secret of how to be miserable is to constantly expect things are going to happen the way that they are "supposed" to happen.
You can have faith, which carries the understanding that you may be disappointed. Then there's being a willfully-blind idiot, which virtually guarantees it.
