I'm in shock. My HVAC system has been erratic lately, so I called the people I bought/have it serviced from. An actual live person picked up the phone immediately. My call really was important to them!
It has been sooo many years, and ironically the rot began when I can calling on behalf of a Fortune company to another Fortune company, and now even the local appliance repairman often has no direct line for service. I am truly impressed. OK, so they're not the cheapest people in town, but if cheap is all that matters, you're not as rich as you think you are, and never will be. The ticket got scheduled, the problem got fixed, and I may yet recoup financially. Or at least eat ramen and beans in comfort.
Incidentally, HVAC thermostat systems were designed in a much cruder age. They run off 24V AC and often have only 2 control wires and a ground. My problem was that the drain line had built-up algae and was threatening to overflow. So lacking a suitable data channel, the system simply turned off power to the thermostat until the drain dried out. No thermostat, no control. But also, no problem specific alert message on the microprocessor-controlled thermostat LED display. Because no power to the thermostat. Eek.
The secret of how to be miserable is to constantly expect things are going to happen the way that they are "supposed" to happen.
You can have faith, which carries the understanding that you may be disappointed. Then there's being a willfully-blind idiot, which virtually guarantees it.
