Hi everyone!
I would like to share my experience of passing the
Java 17 (1Z0-829) exam (taken on 08/29).
My biggest concern was if my room was OK and if my computer was OK because this is something that is not very predictable, will Oracle like it or not.
The real exam proceeded not as I expected (expectations were based on the requirements page -
https://education.oracle.com/oracle-exam-prep#yourComp)
1. I was NOT asked to show 2 forms of ID, although I had them with me.
2. I did NOT speak a
word with the supervisor (proctor), we were just gathered in the Zoom virtual room, I was shown the 6-digit password for the
test, I entered it in another browser tab and the exam started (50 questions, one and a half hour, passing score 68%).
3. I was NOT asked to show the room and to use a laptop's camera or phone to do so. When I took Java 11 in 2019, they asked me to show the room and even made me take off my wristband. See my older feedback about Java 11 exam via Pearson VUE here:
http://www.pmsas.pr.gov.br/wp-content/?id=coderanch-1z0-809&exam=t/717803/certification/Passed-exam-today-office
4. During the exam, the camera was lit green, i.e. it was active. But there was no window where the supervisor could write to me.
5. Also there is no virtual notepad if you need to analyze code step by step (in long loops for example), i.e. all code evaluation is done in your head.
6. When you are done and submit answers, the exam is over, and you are immediately shown your percentage of correct answers and asked to close the browser. Again, no any contact with proctor.
7. Since I was not asked to present ID and to show the room I thought maybe I did not join properly, but less than in an hour I got emails and saw results at CertView.
My study sources are pretty much "traditional"
1) Enthuware Mock Test
https://enthuware.com/java-certification-mock-exams/oracle-certified-professional/ocp-java-17-exam-1z0-829
- It shows you almost real testing environment (the real one will be in the Web)
- Questions similar to a real exam, so you know what to expect
- Very important -- it will help you to feel the timing of the real exam, you MUST complete 1 question in 108 seconds, or skip it.
- Took all the tests, just 1 per day, started 3 weeks before the exam, make sure you review answers after submitting
I think it's a must (it helped me significantly)
2) OCP Oracle Certified Professional Java SE 17 Developer Study Guide by Scott Selikoff, Jeanne Boyarsky <- read it completely before taking the mock test, otherwise you will be guessing and get unreliable scores.
3) OCP Oracle Certified Professional Java SE 17 Developer (Exam 1Z0-829) Programmer's Guide by Khalid A. Mughal, Vasily A. Strelnikov <- I used it mostly as a second textbook when I needed a deeper understanding of some topics, the book is deeper technically, contains much more code examples.
