My Digital Photography for Seniors by Jason Rich

If you've read my reviews before, you know I'm a programmer. This book is too easy for me. I had expressed interest in another Que book and the publisher sent me a bunch of books in the same box. It's a good book though and I'll be giving it to my mother the next time I see her.

First, the book defines senior as 50+. It has an AARP logo on the front which matches this. Most of the material applies to people of all ages though. Like any good book for non-tech savvy folks, it starts with step by step instructions to find the camera on the phone in the first place. I like that no vocabulary is taken for granted including "selfie" and "selfie stick."

Most of the book is about phones with a tiny bit that can also apply to cameras. I would have liked a clearer split between iPhone and Android rather than half a chapter on each multiple times. For that matter, I would have liked the words iPhone and Android to appear on the cover.

I really like the tips on how to take photos including the rule of thirds and how to take pictures through glass. I also like the coverage of how to edit pictures on your phone or computer. Including information about transferring photos to your computer and the cloud are helpful for the target audience. The "it's not all good" tips are particularly nice including how inkjet printers can easily cost a lot in ink.

Most of the sample pictures were scenes, animals and a cute little girl. There was even a koala at the end.

I give this book 7 out of 10 horseshoes.
