Or, you can use these icons to give your architecture diagrams and project documentation a more professional look before you deliver to your clients.
Microsoft Azure Architecture & Cloud Icon Set in SVG Format
I use these icons in images for BuildAzure.com, in addition to my user group / conference talk slides, and any other training content I develop. They really help enhance the professional look and feel of the content that I build, and increase the brand cohesiveness between the products I’m writing about and the Microsoft branding for them.
The download consists of a .zip
file that contains a collection of .svg
images for the various Microsoft Azure icons. You can import these images directly into Microsoft PowerPoint, or even open them in your browser and take screenshots of them from there. Microsoft has stated that they are planning to update the downloaded collection of icons over time.
What can I use these Azure icons for?
You can use this download collection of Azure icons for the following purposes:
- Use the icons to illustrate how products can work together
- In diagrams, to represent the specific Azure service. It’s recommended to use the Azure service name in your diagrams as well to alleviate potential confusion.
- Use the icons as they would within Azure
- Include Azure icons in your architectural diagrams, training materials, or documentation to represent Microsoft Azure services.
FYI, these Azure icons are provided by Microsoft and the downloaded .zip
collection contains Microsoft’s Terms of Use for using the icons. Please reference the Terms of Use included alongside the icons in the .zip
download for a full list of terms you need to adhere to when using these icons.
The official Microsoft page for “Azure architecture icons” has more information about the icons Microsoft has available.
What file format are the images?
The icons in this collection are in SVG (Scalable Vector Graphic) format. You can easily resize these images to fit your needs without compromising on the quality of the icons in your diagrams, PowerPoints, etc.
The icons in this collection are in SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) format. This format is a vector-based format that uses mathematical equations and geometric primitives to represent images and graphics. Unlike formats like PNG or JPEG, an SVG image is resolution-independent, meaning it can be scaled to any size without losing quality. This makes SVG an ideal image format for icons, logos, and other graphics that need to be resized frequently.
Do the Azure Icons work in PowerPoint?
Absolutely! Office 365 versions of PowerPoint support importing .svg
file based images. So including these in your PowerPoints are extremely simple. You can drag and drop, or import, the icon .svg
files to include them in your presentations and/or architecture diagrams created using Microsoft PowerPoint.
Can I use these Azure Icons to represent my own product or service?
No, the Azure icons are provided for download by Microsoft for you to use in architectural diagrams, training materials, or documentation. You may not use them to represent your own products or services.
Can I modify the Azure icons?
No, modifying the Azure icons when using them is not included in the Terms of Use that Microsoft licenses these icons with. Please refer to the Terms of Use included in the Azure icon download .zip
file for full Terms of Use details to adhere to.
The Azure icon download is not provided by Build5Nines. It is provided by Microsoft and the Azure icons are copyrighted Microsoft property, so you’ll need to adhere to Microsoft Terms of Use when including them and using them. This page is to help you locate where to download the Azure icons, and to help raise awareness to the availability of the full Azure icon collection .zip
file archive offered directly by Microsoft.
Happy diagramming!
Hi Chris, from what I’ve read online it seems that Microsoft is wanting us to start using the new style of icons that we can find from: https://azure.microsoft.com/en-us/solutions/architecture/. Are there any available Visio stencils for those new icons? Or are they not available yet?
I’m still amazed that they stopped developing the 3D templates! They were amazing.
Those are example architectures. MS uses the icons I linked to when creating these diagrams.
This pack is out of date. I found it (v2.6) via Google yesterday and found that it’s using the old Logic Apps icon. Was hoping you were pointing to a new file. Not a criticism. Just FYI.
I’ll check into that
Missing Azure Cosmos DB
Yes, I want that icon too
Good to have this, but there’s still a lot of work to do in the colour consistency department.
If one needs to document existing azure solutions, in build, to try and reverse engineer what has been built for Enterprise, for example Rest APIs in addition to Vms etc, is there anything out there which can rebuild some realtime diagrams other than azuredocit.
Not any automatic tools that I know of.
There is also a free Visio Stencil for Azure, AWS & Google Cloud provided by Cloudockit : https://www.cloudockit.com/azure-aws-google-cloud-visio-stencils-to-build-your-diagrams/
The link is not working. Would you please update it?
The link is still valid and working. Although I have noticed that for some reason it gives an error message in Safari on macOS. If you get an error with the link, please use a different web browser; such as Chrome to open it instead. I would fix it, but the issue is with Microsoft.com. 🙂

Thanks!
Does it contain azure devops images?
No, the Azure DevOps branding is newer than the latest Azure icon set .zip file download. You may be able to use the Azure Icon Downloader extension for Chrome to help get the DevOps images: http://www.pmsas.pr.gov.br/wp-content/?id=buildazure-70-533&exam=2019/04/12/azure-icon-downloader-chrome-extension/
Microsoft recently, May 8th, published an update to the icon set download. This update includes Azure DevOps and many other latest icons.
So it looks like Microsoft removed the PowerPoint and Visio version of the icon library. This really makes no sense to me as now it seems Amazon and Google are doing a better job supporting systems architects than MSFT. I really don’ want to go import every single icon into a PPT, lookup the label, and then make my own deck every time they update an icon.
Hmm, I need to look into this. Thanks for the heads up.
Agreed – The stencils are no longer present in the download..
I have been struggling to import this for a while and then left hope 🙁
OK. So it wasn’t me. I was trying to figure out how to import them so they appear in my stencils in visio, and instead I got a bunch of SVG files. weird.
Hello there! I have spent at least the last 30 minutes trying to figure out how to easily import the icons into Powerpoint. Is there an easy way to import these into the icons in PPT? When I download the icons, I have to individually iport them as pictres, Not very efficient. Also, I don;t see ADLS Gn 2 icons etc….they don’t seem current. Please advise.
The download from Microsoft is a zip file with images in it. What are you look for?
Looking for a true Visio Stencil that I can use creating drawing for our new Azure environment. The download is now all .SVG files which Visio does not recognize as a shape to put in a Diagram.
Hi Chris, I think this, from AWS, is the type of help we are looking for from Microsoft. https://aws.amazon.com/architecture/icons/
Yeap, the download is now a load of SVG files … can’t see how to create an actual Visio stencil from them ??
Yeah, they changed the download and the old one isn’t available anymore currently.
Back to Sandro’s set of stencils. Amazing that Microsoft don’t have a decent set of stencils.
