Congratulations on your new book again.
Other than the content of course, have you made any changes in the book such as style, new design elements, or something else? i.e. does the new book follow the same pattern as the previous one?

Yes, the content is different . We mostly followed the same style. With one important caveat. Our OCA 8 book was our first book. So we are better authors now. Which means we re-wrote some stuff.

Our OCA 8 book was our first book.

For real?! Honestly couldn't tell if you asked! The book is very consistent from cover to cover. That (I think) must be very difficult to achieve, especially with two autors. Kudos much!

Yes, for real . I had contributed to someone else's book and done a lot of tech editing. And we've both blogged

Fun fact, there's a particular chapter in our "old" book I am not proud of. I won't say which one, but it was my first chapter and I probably rewrote it 5-6 times. Was glad to clean it up in the Java 11 version!

Also re consistency - Scott and I agreed to a good number of conventions. We also edit each other's chapter. We want the book to have the feel of being written by one person.

Thanks, that doesn't happen by accident! Jeanne and I have a complex system of resolving ~~disagreements~~... "opportunities to collaborate". I still glare at Jeanne when I see a list without an Oxford comma. Luckily, she is a very forgiving, kind and friendly co-author.

And I tease Scott that Oxford commas are the copy editors job . But yes, our system for resolving disagreements definitely makes the book stronger. And the fact that we can joke about it (usually) without the other getting upset makes it fun to go back and forth.
